Volkswagen unveiled the revamped, all-new for 2019 Jetta this past weekend at the Detroit Auto Show. The Jetta continues to be one of VW’s best-selling vehicles in the United States, and this redesign hopes to not only capitalize on that, but bring U.S. drivers an even greater value for their money. This newest iteration will ride on the company’s MQB platform – a modular matrix that forms the backbone of everything from the golf to the full-size Atlas SUV – and will keep the same 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that delivers best-in-class torque.
The 2019 Jetta is longer than the outgoing body-style by nearly an inch, and is both wider and lower than the previous model. It will feature a redesigned front fascia with LED lighting as standard. To top-off the exterior changes, the roofline has been altered to give the car a more coupe-like silhouette to match its sporty handling.
Interior Changes
Volkswagen’s top-notch soft-touch materials make a comeback in 2019 along with new, angular interior elements, and optional 10-color wrap-around ambient interior LED lighting. Heated and cooled front seats, memory functionality, leather surfaces, and dual-zone climate control are all optional, and the redesigned center console is roomy enough to fit a full-sized Apple iPad, according to Volkswagen.
Higher-level trims like the SEL and SEL Premium will come equipped with VW’s new Digital Cockpit design, including a 12.3-inch, high-resolution screen in place of a traditional gauge cluster, ambient lighting, and navigation. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will come as standard.
A rearview camera will be standard equipment for 2019, with forward collision warning, autonomous braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning being optional.
The new Jetta will be available with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, and the sports-oriented R-Line trim will feature and electronically-controlled limited slip differential.
Keep an eye out for the 2019 Jetta beginning in the second quarter of 2018.
